Challenging traditional thought so Everyone  Dances!

Everyone Dances

Everyone Dances
was created to challenge the traditional definition
of who can dance
and to create wonderful times when Everyone Dances.

There are many who think they can't or shouldn't dance because of age,
physical or mental challenges, skill-level, experience, or other reasons.
We support and encourage everyone who wishes to dance.
We say - if you want to dance...*DANCE!

Let's open our hearts & minds and broaden
the possibilities of who can dance.
Then with that energy & joy,
throw open the doors and
create wonderful
times when

We are not telling you that you should dance; that decision is between you & your doctor. We are showing you what others are doing in dance.

What can you do now?  If you know anyone who would like to dance but isn't, introduce them to EveryoneDances and encourage them to view the videos, read the articles & *dance.
If that person is you, we support and encourage you to...*DANCE!

The following is written for us by a dear friend of EveryoneDances, a beautiful, talented spirit,
Catherine Ehret, also a Nia teacher.

"Dancing Through Life"

75 trillion cells, 206 bones 700 muscles.

Our bodies are built to move in a delicious myriad of ways and many, many studies show that practically every one of us will unconsciously begin to dance when music is played. Watch 2 year olds when music is playing; they definitely get their groove on in their own Body’s Way! We can learn from them. Our beautiful design of muscles, ligaments and tendons that surround and support bony joints give us all the opportunity to become fit, strong and expressive. In our own time, in our own Body’s Way, in our own dance.

That’s worth repeating and emphasizing:

In our own time, in our own Body’s Way, in our own dance

What a simple yet very powerful group of words. These are words to take into our everyday lives. Words to take into our hearts, our minds as well as our bodies. Our dance is more than the series of physical steps we take to music, it is the choices we make, the connections we encourage and the love we share. Consciously giving and receiving. To try and define dance

is like trying to define all people with one statement. It cannot and should not be done. In the attempt, possibilities are narrowed, options cast away in order to have a nice, neat, one-statement circumscription (which, by definition itself is “limit setting”).

To define is to limit. Who can dance and who can’t? Let’s all take a fresh breath and release

our need for defining all. We’ll start small, though, and begin by releasing the definition of dance and the definition of who can dance.

What’s left?

Everyone Dances!

We believe there are many people that have thought about doing dance but,
for whatever reason, cannot or will not pursue it.

Here are some of those reasons:
I'm too old
I don't look like a dancer
I'm too heavy
I'm in a wheelchair (permanently or temporarily)
I'm on crutches
I use a cane or walker
**"My dance teacher told me I was not a dancer." (Be careful, teachers. I've
heard this many times from adults that love dancing & were told they can't or shouldn't dance
)

I'm blind
I'm deaf
I have a learning disability
I'm too shy
I don't know anyone who dances
I don't have the money
My feet hurt

Please stop using these reasons -
It's not necessary any more.
*Rules? None! Let's dance!
